We have pioneered the art of off-site intumescent fireproofing. We have a shop that is designed for off-site work. We can apply intumescent fireproofing in a controlled shop environment any time of year which eliminates most of the usual problems associated with doing the work in the field. These products are not easy to work with on the jobsite due to climatic conditions, space and time required to do the work, and proper sequencing of the various trades. Performing this work in our shop eliminates most of these issues. With a little advance planning with the steel fabricators and erectors we can save the contractor and owner a significant amount of time and money while providing a superior product at the same time.

Intumescent thin film fireproofing is gaining popularity with architects and owners for its use on architecturally exposed structural steel. The look of exposed steel is very popular but it still requires an hourly rating on many projects. The only way to accomplish this is with intumescent fireproofing.

In some instances the appearance is not the issue, but rather the space for conventional fireproofing is not available. Intumescent fireproofing is much thinner than conventional fireproofing which allows those tube steel columns to fit inside the stud walls instead of boxing around them and losing floor space.

Our products include Cafco SprayFilm WB3, WB4, and the newest one WB5, as well as products from Albi, and Carboline.

We thoroughly test every piece of steel before it leaves the shop to verify the thickness applied is sufficient for the hourly rating called for. On-site testing agencies typically test about 10% of the steel to verify compliance with the specifications. We have never had a failed test in the field.
